Music and My Cochlear Implant
Music was one thing I was told I would not be able to enjoy when I had my first Cochlear Implant. So it was a surprise when a few months after switch on I was enjoying music, bought a new piano and started playing again.
Bigotry and deafness
Bigotry is caused by misunderstanding and a failure to tolerate another person’s point of view. Some people seem to think that the way they think is right and everyone else isn’t entitled to be different.
Deafness in a digital age
We’ve come a long way since ear trumpets, the town crier or even party line telephones. Never before has there been so many options for communication and never before has this communication removed many of the barriers and given Deaf/deaf people access.
Path to a Cochlear Implant
How do you get a Cochlear Implant? How do you qualify? Where can you get one? It’s a question I get asked often and although it is different in every country the steps are sure to be similar.
Difficulties socialising if deaf

How Deaf is Deaf?
It is different for everyone and does depend on what the cause of deafness is, but Deaf/deafened can be totally deaf and get no sound at all, or may still get some very loud sound, in just a few frequencies or it could be distorted.
Deafness and a cold
From time to time we are all troubled with minor illness like a cold. So how does a cold affect our hearing?
Implant a child?
A baby has a severe/profound hearing loss. Should the child be implanted with a Cochlear implant? This is a debate which has raged for years and doesn’t seem to be abating.
Myths about Cochlear Implants
Myths about Cochlear implants, how they work and what they do still abound. There is usually a grain of truth in a myth – which is why the myth exists. So let’s look at some of the common myths and discover what is true and what isn’t.
Myths about hearing aids
There seems to be so much mis-information about hearing loss and hearing aids so I thought I’d look at some of the myths and see which ones can be debunked and which ones have an element of truth.
