Deafness in a digital age
Weíve come a long way since ear trumpets, the town crier or even party line telephones. Never before has there been so many options for communication and never before has this communication removed many of the barriers and given Deaf/deaf people access.

Path to a Cochlear Implant
How do you get a Cochlear Implant? How do you qualify? Where can you get one? Itís a question I get asked often and although it is different in every country the steps are sure to be similar.

Difficulties socialising if deaf
Deafness is not very well understood by the general public and is a very isolating issue to have.

How Deaf is Deaf?
It is different for everyone and does depend on what the cause of deafness is, but Deaf/deafened can be totally deaf and get no sound at all, or may still get some very loud sound, in just a few frequencies or it could be distorted.

Implant a child?
A baby has a severe/profound hearing loss. Should the child be implanted with a Cochlear implant? This is a debate which has raged for years and doesnít seem to be abating.

Myths about Cochlear Implants

Myths about hearing aids

Hearing and Weather
In South Australia we have endured a heat wave and Adelaide, our capital city, earned the title (for a day) as the hottest city in the world. I wondered whether this heat can affect our hearing. There are a few things which might affect our hearing.

How hearing loss affects people
The way you respond to your hearing loss will depend on your stage of life, your personality, the way you deal with set-backs and your support group; family, friends, colleagues. It is an individual response and not everyone is affected, nor deals with the changes in the same way.
