Hurricane Katrina - Help the Families
Hurricane Katrina has caught up families of children with disabilities and health conditions in the devastation and they need our support to survive; Hurricane Rita may result in similar destruction along the Gulf coast of Texas.

Inclusion Benefits Classmates
Practicing inclusion in mainstream classrooms and community programs for our sons and daughters with disabilities benefits all children.

Is Diversity Like A New Box of Crayons?
We are asking the wrong questions when we discuss whether (or when) a child with a disability should be included in a mainstream classroom, or integrated with typically developing peers in other programs. Mainstream students in regular classrooms already enjoy many accommodations and supports.

Summer Car Safety for Children
Summer safety issues include the dangers of cars and weather. Never leave a child alone in or near a car; something as simple as keeping a teddy bear in your child's car seat, or tying a ribbon on your antenna, can save the life of the child you love.

Down Syndrome Awareness
Down syndrome information and outreach advocates educate their communities, educators and legislators about issues important to families of individuals who have Down syndrome

Person First Language Sensitivity
Person First Language can apply to any individual or group who may be disrespected, overlooked or dismissed due to stereotypes, prejudice, or discrimination. People with disabilities and their families are often marginalized and excluded because they are classified by diagnosis instead of humanity.

Recess Skills and Childhood Disabilities
Knowing recess games and practicing playground skills are an important part of preparing for the new school year and enjoying the year already underway.

Childhood Seizures and Epilepsy
Episodes of childhood seizures, whether epilepsy or seizure disorder, infants experiencing febrile seizures (with fever), or in children who have had a single episode seizures for any reason, may call for a consulation with a pediatric neurologist as well as the family doctor.

Celiac Disease in Children
Celiac Disease, or gluten intolerance, is much more common in children than was previously suspected, especially those who are already diagnosed with Type One Diabetes or Down Syndrome

Thoughts from the Middle of the Night
When my son was born with Down syndrome, I could not imagine his kindergarten year in a mainstream classroom, with friends and birthday parties, learning to read and write, or sharing his thoughts during story time. I thank all the moms looking forward, who are always reaching back to help others.
