Defined by Deafness
Sorry. I'm deaf. Have you ever felt you are defined by deafness not for yourself and your achievements? I can remember saying the first thing I had to tell everyone about myself was that I was deaf but that it really was the least important thing about me because I am so much more than my deafness

Designing for Deafness
If you were disabled and needed a wheelchair your house would be adjusted and modified to allow you to easily move into and out of as well as around the inside of the house so I wondered if there is such a thing as designing houses for deafness.

Different types of hearing loss
While there are three different types of hearing loss; Conductive, Sensorineural and mixed, they can be caused by many different things.

Difficulties of Lip reading
Even fully hearing people do not hear everything. What we donít hear is filled in giving the impression we have heard everything. For the deaf the gaps are bigger and our brains have to fill in a lot more .

Difficulties socialising if deaf
Deafness is not very well understood by the general public and is a very isolating issue to have.

Disability employment services
One issue which comes up so often for the Deaf and hard of hearing is getting a job.

Disability equipment
It seems clear to me that the Disability program is aimed at the older generation, those who are less comfortable with mobile phones. In many instances, if you qualify, these devices are free and well worth the trouble of researching to find the best solution for you.

Disposable hearing aids
Hearing aids have come a long way from the analogue aids I wore. My aids were relatively bulky and either sat behind my ear or filled my ear canal leaving me with a hot stuffed feeling. But the latest hearing aids are digital and are far more powerful and adaptable than old analogue aids.

Distance and Cochlear Implants
Having a Cochlear Implant allowed me to hear for the first time in 15-20 years. But there are some limitations. I asked a group of recipients to tell me about the limitation of distance.

Do we deaf talk too much?
Incessant talking is a coping mechanism often used by the deaf so they don't have to listen.
