Needle Tatting Shuttle Style
You can use a tatting needle or blunt tapestry needle as if it were a shuttle. The needle is attached to a long cut thread as normal, and then manipulated in the same manner as a shuttle.

Needleweaving and Tatting Insertion
The insertion pictured above was designed by Tina Frauberger. It is composed of two lines of an edging joined together by two floating rings. The open area between the center joins is filled with needle weaving. This needle weaving may be replaced with tatted rings.

Negative Space in Design
Lace is but a lot of holes surrounded by a pattern of thread which catches our eyes when we see it in detail. But, if we step back and view the lace from a slight distance, it is often the "holes" or the negative space which captures our attention.
