Starting a Home Yoga Practice
However you come to yoga you are going to eventually want to start a home yoga practice. When you are setting up a home yoga practice there are two basic areas of structure: practicality and reasoning; and inner yoga. Here are some tips that I hope will harmonize both areas for you.
Wake Me up Yoga Sequence
This short sequence will make getting up those few minutes early well worth it. Do the entire sequence twice and add a few seated warm-ups for a complete practice.
Warrior I Series
Standing yoga poses are great for improving balance, strengthening legs, hips, and arms. If your looking for some new standing poses or poses to add to your existing routine then give The Warrior Series a try. I'm sure you'll enjoy the long reaching forward bends as you build lower body strength.
Yoga as Therapy
Yoga can be soothing and healing to a troubled psyche and is often used as a form of therapy. However, yoga therapy can deal with more specific physical ailments and conditions helping to relieve or alleviate symptoms.
Yoga for Upper Body Strength
Yoga is an excellent source of resistance training, using your own body weight to provide the resistance, and building muscle in the process. Yoga is especially great for upper body strength, sculpting and defining your arms and shoulders with specific poses.

The value of Yoga for heart health is undisputable. Yoga can help as an excellent activity to prevent or even reverse heart disease. Not only are the poses beneficial but the calmness and relaxation from yoga reduces stress. Stress is a major factor in heart disease.

Yoga can help you take care of yourself! It is different from other kinds of exercise in that it emphasizes your individual performance. Yoga can help you discover the peace and quiet available within yourself, thus giving you inner health as well as physical strength.
Yoga Helps Manage Arthritis
Arthritis pain can be unbearable at times. Yoga is an activity that can help reduce the pain or prevent it. Including yoga in your individual health and fitness regimen can help you manage the pain associated with arthritis. Practice carefully, you don't want to create more pain.

If you haven't attended a Yoga Journal retreat, well now is the time. The 2014 event is to be held at the YMCA of the Rockies, in beautiful Estes Park, Colorado. This year’s event runs Sept. 14-21, 2014. The conference offers a multitude of ways to be involved.
