Flirty and Adaptable Hair Style

My favorite hairstyles are those that have a very natural look while being adaptable and flattering to many wearers. Minimum upkeep is a must, and style that maintains its shape for hours.
This very feminine look rates high on my list. The shape of the style is literally cut into it, making it indestructible.

The Cut:
The area from the ear lobes down is cut to a blunt line and texturized, causing it to hug the neck. The top layers of this style fall to just over the top of the nape section. The top and bottom need not be blended, however, texturizing the top section will allow it to flow smoothly into the nape area.

Thick hair may require a lot of texturizing while thin hair needs only a slight amount.
The bang area is optional. Any length is attractive, from eyebrow and swept to the side, or ear lobe length, and tucked behind the ear.

After you receive a great professional hair cut, you can create this look with these simple steps.
  1. Shampoo and condition your hair with products formulated for your hair type.
  2. Apply a styling lotion, gel or mousse to the root area of the top and crown sections. If you have very thick or frizzy hair, add a smoothing serum at this time. The smoothing serum should be used alone on the nape section as you don't want to encourage volume in this area.
  3. Blow your hair dry.
    • Section off the top and crown hair and clip it out of the way.
    • Using a vent brush, dry the nape section straight. Allow the ends to flip out for a more playful look.
    • Release the top and crown hair and dry it using a large round brush for fullness. Part it and sweep the bangs to the side.

  4. For added fullness and curve, use a few large Velcro rollers (See Equipment Series - Rollers for help) in the top and crown.
  5. Using fingers only, comb your hair into place and finish with a light, flexible-hold hairspray.
  6. Variations:
    • For dressy occasions, follow step #4 with this. Create three or four flirtatious tendrils using a one-inch curling iron on finger sized strands of hair. Don't attempt to blend them in, they are meant to hang free.
    • For sport activities or just for a change, pull the top area of hair (leaving out the bangs) back to the crown and secure it with an elastic. Allow the ends to curl softly.

Whatever styling variation you choose, this haircut will keep its shape and appeal from the first hour of work in the morning through the last dance of the evening.
