In many parts of the world the air is turning crisp, and the leaves are beginning to change colors. Fall is on it's way! Introduce your school or playgroup to these awesome Autumn themed activities, and have fun right along with them!

Make a Fall Wreath

First take the children on a supervised hunt for Fall goodies. Here is a list of possible and useful items for them to find:
leaves (a large variety)
acorns
pine cones
small branches/twigs (thinned out)
small pebbles

After the hunt is complete, give each child a paper plate made of a heavy cardstock material. Cut the center out of the paper plate and have the children paint the paper plate brown. When the plates are dry give the children glue and they can glue their Fall decorations on the plate. You may need to use a glue gun later on, afterschool, to secure certain items. When everything is dry, supply the children with a Fall colored ribbon, such as orange or red, and punch a hole in the top of the plate. Help the children to insert a ribbon string to hang their Autumn art at home.

Sing a Song

Here is a fun song to sing with your preschooler, sung to the tune of "Hi Ho a Merry-O"

The leaves are falling down.
The leaves are falling down.
Yellow, red, green and brown.
The leaves are falling down.


Sort and Classify Fall Objects

Place 4-6 small dishes on a table, alongside a medium sized bowl of Fall items. These items can be acrons, pumpkin seeds, maple seeds, mini pine cones and mini gourds. Ask the children to sort the objects into groups, and be sure to label the bowl with the different types of items. For children who are unsure of the type of seed or item you have to sort, place one of each item with that child in each bowl to get them started.
