Maisy's Pool Review

Maisy's Pool is a picture book of summertime fun.

Lucy Cousins writes and illustrates this charming story and clearly shows the fun being enjoyed by the splashing friends. The Maisy storybooks are 8 x 8 inches, which is a good size for the target audience of toddlers and early elementary students. This books and other Maisy storybooks are published by Candlewick Press.

What happens in this book?

Maisy is a mouse who lives in a yellow house with a red roof!

It is a very warm day. Maisy and her friends feel like they are going to melt. There is a solution to this with a pool, but it has its own problems. Water flows into the pool- but then what happens? Will the friends get to cool off?

I love the large font chosen by Lucy Cousins; it is bright and bold and makes sure that toddlers can easily focus on the text as they learn to read. Her brightly painted pictures using primary colors allow for color recognition. For visual clarification she heavily outlines each object. The outlines help kids focus on the defined objects.

I suggest that parents will find that Maisy’s Pool is a great bedtime book. Or enjoy it inside on a hot day before going out to the small splash pool in the backyard.

Enjoy time spent with your children, reading or playing in the sun in the back yard.

Main Characters in Maisy books:
• Maisy - Female mouse who lives in a yellow house with a red roof.
• Panda - Maisy's stuffed toy companion.
• Tallulah - Female chicken almost always seen wearing a dress and a bow on her head.
• Cyril - Male squirrel who wears a bow-tie.
• Eddie - Male elephant who is often in settings where he is too big to participate.
• Charley - Male crocodile who loves to eat.
