I have found the need to address an important topic this issue...the non-professional (or as we prefer to them in the industry, the "kitchen stylist".)
A large amount of women are having bad hair experiences because of their kitchen stylist's lack of knowledge.
What I am having a hard time understanding is, if you would never let your body, your eyes or your teeth be handled by a non-professional, then why would you let your hair? I simply do not trust anyone who has not obtained the knowledge that is required to become a professional in his or her field. I know most kitchen stylists have mastered the technical aspect of styling hair, but lack the theory of hair.
What this means is, that they can not analyze the present state, needs and condition of the hair. This also means that eventually the hair will suffer greatly, more than likely it will undergo a tremendous increase in shedding, dryness, and breakage.
If a problem can not be recognized, then it can not be corrected!
I see the majority of kitchen stylist performing styles that contain large amounts of gels or spritz. These "hard" styles, over time, dry the hair excessively and lead to hair breakage.
Because most kitchen stylists do not promote trims or cuts (I'm assuming because they do not know how to cut hair... even though they may be telling their clients that cutting the hair won't promote hair growth, which is a verbal display of ignorance) the lack thereof contributes to split ends and eventually hair breakage. And to cover up the damage, what do these kitchen stylists do? You guessed it, more "hard" styles, a vicious cycle : (
For those of you that think you can't afford the services of a professional, I say to you...your hair can't afford not to be pampered by one.
Physically your hair dictates so much of your appearance and style. And regardless if you like it or not, people judge you based upon your appearance.
