Craft and Learn- Easter Bunny Collage

Using a collage style motif, help your preschool child create a bunny collage, and then read a few stories about these furry, floppy eared creatures.

Easter Bunny Collage

Supplies Needed:
Torn up white paper (use recycled scraps for this)
Textured paper scraps, like wallpaper samples or scrapbooking paper scraps with embellishments
Scrap construction paper
One Cotton ball
Two pipe Cleaners for whiskers
Markers and crayons
Pencils (colored, too)
Ruler
Scissors
Glue

Directions: First draw the following with or for your child to prepare the pattern:
1 -2 1/2" x 2 1/2" square for the head
1 -3 3/4" x 4 3/4" rectangle for the body
2 -1 3/4" x 2" rectangles for the feet
2 -1 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles for the ears
Starting with the square for the head, draw a large circle so that it touches the sides of the paper, as shown. For the body, draw a large oval or on the rectangle, and repeat this step with the two smaller rectangles to make the feet. On the remaining rectangles, make a mark in the center at the top of each. From this mark, draw the ears, ending in the corner on either side.

Next, your child can crumple the torn paper pices a bit and glue them onto the bunny pattern. Encourage texture and creativity to create a fluffy, or ragged edge to the bunny picture. Leave room for the cotton ball tail, and a place to add whiskers, too. These can be 2 cut pipe cleaners, or the whiskers can be drawn on.

Finally, use the colored construction paper scraps to create a background picture, like green grass blades made from scissor cut green construction paper. Encourage your child's creative side by offering a variety of paper choices and positive reinforcement.

While the craft is drying, enjoy reading a few classic bunny stories to your child. Here is a list of some great Easter themed choices:

1. The Easter Egg by Jan Brett
2. The Easter Bunny that Overslept by Priscilla & Otto Friedrich
3. The Night Before Easter by Natasha Wing
4. The Bunny Who Found Easter by Charlotte Zolotow
5. Happy Easter, Mouse! (If You Give...) by Laura Numeroff
