Over New England DVD – A Review

I enjoyed the visual presentations of this DVD very much. It didn’t offer a lot of facts about the region, but the aerial views of New England are gorgeous and give a really good representation of what this region is actually like overall.

They cover Maine first and it is beautiful to see from the air. They show a lot of ocean but also fly over the mountains too. The fall foliage in this video footage is as good as it gets and if you can't get here in person, you'll feel as if you've been on your finest leaf peeping trip yet while watching this DVD.

Rhode Island was next with its stately Newport mansions by the sea. Then they take you over Providence and they fly pretty low. This view gives you a sense of how densely populated this state is.

On to New Hampshire with its snow covered mountains, rocky coastlines, and industrious mill towns. This is one of my favorite states because it offers so much of the great outdoors.
Watching snowmobiles and skiers glide across the snow from an aerial view in this DVD is pretty cool. Everyone looks like ants scurrying around on the mountaintops from this perspective. You get a real sense of how small we truly are when measured against the backdrop of these mountains.

Vermont - The lush green of Vermont's valleys is breathtaking. I live on Cape Cod so quaint is never in short supply where I live, but Vermont has us beat hands down. To see their towns from the air is like seeing a Rockwell village in miniature. It's hard to believe how unchanged the area still is compared to other states around it. The foliage in this part of the video is also amazing.

Massachusetts came next, then Connecticut. They covered both states in aerial detail.

They've done a good job of displaying the four seasons of New England and all of the variety that they offer to viewers and visitors alike.

Personally, I didn't care for the typical PBS style of narration on this one. I found it to be a bit stuffy and out dated.

The music wasn't really my cup of tea either, but in truth, this DVD is all about the eye candy. They show a quick caption of the name of each city or town on the screen as they fly over them so if you turned the sound off completely, you'd still have an enjoyable journey through New England. Your eyes will be delighted throughout this entire DVD and that is really the mission here.
