Achieving A Great Client Consultation

Everyone has their own perception of a certain look in their mind. We don’t all think the same way. When you say cherry red hair color, or warm blonde tone, you perception of those colors could be totally different then your hairdressers. Today there is more than one name for every color, style, tool and everything in the hair industry. When you are talking to your hairdresser you need to make sure you’re getting your clear point across about what you are looking for or there could be results you didn’t want. Below are 5 tips to help you have a good, clear understanding in your client consultation.

Tip # 1: When you go in to see your hairdresser if you’re having problems with your hair you need to fully explain those problems so they understand. Your hairdresser doesn’t have your hair, she or he doesn’t know what’s going on, and only you do. When explaining, be detailed so that your hairdresser can offer up the right help for that problem.

Tip #2: Explaining color to your hairdresser can be a challenge. If you love a certain color and want that for your hair it’s hard to explain that color. Sometimes what you think is a certain color your hairdresser thinks is another color and it can become complicated. When trying to explain the color ask your hairdresser for color books or swatches. These can help a tremendous amount because you both are looking at the same color so you both get the same idea on what you want.

Tip#3: When it comes to color and skin tone, your hairdresser is the perfect person for the answer. They should be able to answer and questions you might have. If you’re looking for a new hair color but not quite sure what would go good with your skin tone this is the great time to look at books and swatches and talk to your hairdresser about what you like and get there opinion. It’s worth taking the time to have a deep thorough consultation.

Tip#4: If you are going to your hairdresser for a chemical service, I can’t stress enough how important it is for you to let he or she know what old chemicals may still be in your hair. If you only go to them for chemicals then they should have a record about what they have recently used on your hair but if not then it is really important to tell them what you have used. Putting chemicals over chemicals is really damaging to your hair. Too much damage can cause hair to break off and can cause unwanted results. That’s why it is really important to tell the hairdresser about any chemicals.

Tip#5: Cut and style are really important for you and your hairdresser to both have a clear idea on what you want. Sometimes a medium length hair cut, can mean two different lengths to you and your hair dresser. The same with styling sometimes you may think a certain style looks a certain way from what you have heard, but your hairdresser knows what a style looks like and a certain name, and if it is not clarified you will end up getting results you never wanted.

Client Consultations are extremely important, never skimp on anything in the consultation, if you don’t think you both are seeing the same style then keep going on with the consultation. Let me know what you think are other good tips for a consultation.
