Earth Day in New England

Are you planning a trip to Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont during the month of April? New England offers many festivals, outdoor activities and special events to help you celebrate Earth Day.

Every year the five New England states sport a calendar full of special events in honor of Earth Day, but there are some places here where you can celebrate our wonderful planet during all of the seasons.

Here is a list of places and ideas where you’ll be sure to revel in the resources of our amazing earth no matter what the date is.

Visit any of our major aquariums and get up close to the sea and all of its creatures without even getting your feet wet!

Rhode Island doesn’t have an aquarium yet but Roger Williams Park is a wonderful place to visit on Earth Day with its botanical gardens, zoo, Museum of Natural History and Planetarium.

I can think of no better way to really appreciate our planet than to go on a whale watching tour. The tours start in April in New England but you'll need to bundle up.
One visit to see these magnificent creatures in the wild and you will understand why so many people dedicate their time, effort and money to keep whales and their natural habitat safe.

Hike up a mountanside, stroll on a beach or soar a kite into clean blue skies. All are great ways to celebrate Earth Day. Take a brisk bike ride in a park, along the sea shore or down into a country valley. Let your lungs fill with clean air and take a moment to really appreciate the environment that we have been given. Do something just for you, and if you feel inspired to do so, get involved in one of the local clean-up activities that are held in all of the 5 states on Earth Day and all through the month of April. It’s a great way to get outside, appreciate the earth and do something constructive all at the same time.

New England will greet you wearing a bonnet of spring crocus, daffodils and tulips. Come join us for Earth day, Easter and the Boston Marathon and let April in New England inspire you.
