Step 32: Holding the dark blue fabric in place, flip the pattern over and pin in place.

Step 33: Stitch along the line between Section 6 and Sections 7, starting above the line and ending past the line.

Step 34: Turn the pattern over to the fabric side, flip the dark blue fabric over and press the seam.

Step 35: With the printed side down, fold the pattern along the line between Section 6 and Section 8.

Step 36: Turn the pattern over so that the fabric side is down and fold the paper back along the line between Section 6 and Section 8. Using a ruler and a rotary cutter, trim the red/light blue fabric 1/4" above the edge of the folded pattern. Discard the excess fabric. Unfold the paper pattern.

Step 37: With right sides together, layer a dark blue rectangle on the trimmed edge of the red fabric.

Step 38: Holding the dark blue fabric in place, flip the pattern over and pin in place.

Step 39: Stitch along the line between Section 6 and Section 8, starting above the line and ending past the line.

Step 40: Turn the pattern over to the fabric side, flip the dark blue fabric over and press the seam.

Step 41: Now it's time to trim the pattern. Place the edge of a ruler on the dotted line along one side of the pattern and trim away the excess fabric and paper with a rotary cutter. Note: Don't use the same rotary cutter that you use for cutting fabric to trim paper, because you will end up dulling your blade. I use a rotary cutter with an old blade that I keep around just for trimming paper.

Step 42: Continue trimming in this manner until all sides have been trimmed.

Step 43: Carefully tear away the paper foundation, beginning with the outer pieces.

Your finished block should measure 6-1/2" on all sides. This includes a 1/4" seam allowance on all sides.
