The Club

Hello, and welcome back! While I'll be happy to see spring, I'm still a bit disappointed with our pitiful winter. And I'm a little worried about how long and miserable summer is going to be here; there are flowers budding and blooming here that shouldn't be blooming or even close to it until next month. Or, and I can think positively here, our spring is just going to last a long time this year. But I'm afraid that's not really it.

I've finished reading the March romances here, and have a few left to share with you, including Sharon Page's The Club (Dell). The widowed Jane St. Giles, Lady Sherringham has gone to a secret sex club to try to find out what has happened to her best friend Del, who vanished recently. Del's husband has told her Del ran off with a lover, but Jane happens to know that he took Del to this club where Del did things that frightened her. Jane is determined to find her friend. She has no idea she's about to run into Del's prodigal brother Christian, Lord Wickham, or, as he has been known for years, Lord Wicked. Christian has just returned to England because of a letter from his sister, and now he and Jane team up to find out exactly what has happened. If he can keep Jane out of trouble along the way, things would be even better. Of course, if they keep returning to the sex club, they're bound to wind up enjoying more than just a kiss or two. While I can certainly understand Jane's desire to help her friend, I couldn't buy into her methods. And Christian, while trying hard to live up to his hated nickname even now, clearly has issues in his past, though readers won't be shocked by them when they're finally revealed. I wanted to like this one, but there are some truly vile characters in it, as well as some very unpleasant situations. This one has earned only three of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
