Turkey Patties with Greek Seasoning Recipe

If you’ve got a crowd coming over for an informal meal or a youth group to feed, and your budget is thin, what can you serve? These delightfully seasoned turkey burgers will fill the bill. For about five dollars, you can have meat for ten sandwiches. By shopping at Aldi, or another high quality discount store, you can use store brands to hold your total party budget to under thirty dollars. Now that’s frugal!

Turkey Patties with Greek Seasoning Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup seasoned bread crumbs made from herb stuffing mix (I used Orowheat.)
4 tablespoons dried minced onion
4 tablespoons dried parsley
2 teaspoons Greek Seasoning (I used Cavender’s.)
1 teaspoon dried mint (Rub it between your hands to release the oils.)
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
¼ cup light Italian dressing
Juice from one lemon
2 eggs
2 pounds ground turkey (I use an inexpensive frozen ground turkey from Aldi.)

Method:

To make the bread crumbs, I pour a bag of herb stuffing into my food processor and process it until the crumbs are fine and all of the chunks are broken. After taking enough crumbs for my recipe, I store the rest of the crumbs in a freezer bag in the freezer, until I am ready to use them.

In a large mixing bowl, add the crumbs, onion, parsley, Greek Seasoning, mint, and pepper. Mix them. Then, add the Italian dressing, lemon juice, and eggs. Finish with the turkey. Use your hands to mix it up until the seasonings and crumbs are uniformly distributed through the meat. Divide the finished meat mixture into 10 equally sized balls.

Prepare a pan. I use an aluminum jelly roll pan. For easy clean up, line it with foil. Spray the foil on the pan with nonstick cooking spray. Flatten the meat balls into patties. I line them up with three in a row. They may touch, since there will be some shrinkage. At the bottom of the pan, I shape the remaining ball into a log shape and flatten it. This one can go into a hot dog bun!

Bake for 50 minutes at 350 degrees F.

How can you have an informal party for under thirty dollars? What would you serve? If you shop at Aldi, or another high value discount store, the menu would look like this:

You doubt that it can be done? Well, here’s how! The turkey patties would cost about five dollars to make. The buns would be less than two dollars. Three bags of mixed salad, a box of grape tomatoes, and a cucumber would cost at most six dollars. A couple of bottles of salad dressing would cost about three dollars. Three bags of chips would cost four dollars. Two boxes of brownie mix, with the eggs and oil to prepare them would be almost four dollars. Tea, you probably already have, and four lemons would cost a dollar. Frozen orange juice and a couple of two liters of lemon-lime soda cost about four dollars.

Prepare the meat patties in advance. Make the brownies at the same time. Then, when it’s time to eat, microwave the meat patties to reheat them. Have the buns on a platter. Put your salad in a bowl. Also serve the chips in bowls. Have your drinks in pitchers with lemon slices or wedges beside them. To make the orange coolers, mix the orange juice. Pour the orange juice together with the lemon-lime soda. Keep some in the refrigerator, so that you can refresh the pitchers with cold drinks. That’s it. Your guests will love the food. You will enjoy the simplicity, since you will be able to enjoy your guests without fussing over the food.

Sharing a meal with enjoyable people doesn’t need to break the bank. This easy-to-serve meal combines taste with frugality. Take pleasure in serving a delightful casual meal and spending time with your family and friends.
