Researching Authors On The Web

Whether you are researching for an article or book, or you are simply curious about where you can find out about authors by using the Internet, look no further.

For popular authors, there are fan sites online. There may be several depending on the author and the genre they write in. Most of the time, however, these sites are more for curiosity seekers and are not reliable places to find out information about the author himself or herself.

If you are using the information for research it is important that you verify the information you find online in three different ways. This will help you keep your facts accurate, and allow you to bypass the many myths that are told about popular people.

There are a number of websites that collect links to help you out. I have listed some of them below. If the author you are interested in has been published by a mainstream publishing company, you can go to their corporate website and usually find a list of their authors alphabetically.

In addition to my short list below, you may want to check out your local library. They have quite a few databases you can use for free that can also help you out.

Lastly, be sure to Google the author and look for their website. Usually, you will find some pretty interesting things there as well. When it comes to authors websites, however, you need to know what to look for. Many famous authors use the website their publisher created. If they do, it will say something like “Official Website of” on the top of the home page.

Sometimes, popular authors also have their own website and/or blog to keep in touch with their fans. So, if you find multiple results for an author when searching on Google.com be sure to check them all out.

Here is a list to get you started:

African American Literature Book Club

This is a fascinating website. It has detailed information on authors, books and genres. They have an interesting video on the homepage with an interview with Mahogany Books.

They also have some interesting trivia with pictures. Like, who the first African American Novelist to sell a million books was. You will have to go there to find out. Just kidding : - ) - It was An Petry.

All Readers.com
This site is arranged by author in each genre group. You can find author biographies, plot breakdowns, and reviews here.

Book Reporter.com

This site has listings from Author Yellow Pages. The list brief biographical information, reviews of individual works, and a comprehensive list of each author’s works.

There have been some changes recently. A popular site called Authors on the Web, has not become a website design business for authors.

Author Yellow Pages is now run by The Book Report Network. They have eighteen years experience in putting readers in touch with books and authors.

You can find them here:
