The Ruddy Turnstone is a shorebird found along the coasts of the US as well as in particular spots within the center of the continent. It has a white breast and brown wings. The two birds on the right in this photo are ruddy turnstones, the bird on the left is a sanderling (note the black legs).



The Ruddy Turnstone is just under 10" long and has a very pointed bill that is dark in color. This can help you distinguish the ruddy from other similar shorebirds. It has orange feet, brown feathers, breast and head.

In breeding season the ruddy looks MUCH different - it has a black breast with bright brown wings.
