The crown-to-rump length of the baby is nearing 9 inches and will begin at this point to vary more and more according to each individual infant. His weight is closer to a pound and a half.
The bones of your baby are now hardening and growing stronger. A baby born at this stage of the pregnancy would be extremely premature and would have a small chance of survival now. This would have been impossible just a few years ago but modern medical technology has allowed for premie babies to survive at younger ages.
What the Mother Feels During the Twenty-Fifth Week
The uterus is now the size of a soccerball and the fundus, or top of the uterus, is about halfway between the bellybutton and the sternum, or breastbone. This increasing size of the uterus puts pressure on the bladder, bringing the return of more frequent urination.
The increase in pressure also can cause leg cramps, especially at night or while sleeping. Staying well hydrated and stretching can help. Pregnant women should also avoid lying on their backs while sleeping.
Many expectant mothers find that their stretching skin itches. This complaint is especially common in the breasts and belly. While lotion may not necessarily prevent stretch marks, it will help keep the skin moisturized and ease any itchiness.
With the center of gravity rapidly changing for a mother-to-be, she should take care when doing certainly activities. Stairs seem to be particularly awkward so be sure to begin using a handrail if you don't usually do so.
