Using a crystal ball is the most familiar way of scrying. Different types of crystals are used for crystallomancy. Crystal balls have been used around the world in different cultures for occult purposes.

Most people have heard of the crystal ball that is used for divination. When you mention a crystal ball, it is easy to imagine someone staring into the sphere. The type of sphere that most people imagine is a clear transparent ball.

Clear crystal balls are used but are not the only types of spheres for occult purposes. The crystals used can be either totally clear or have inclusions from which images may be seen. The crystals used may have color including black, purple or whatever color you would like. Polished stone balls are also used for scrying.

Different mediums for creating this occult tool include glass, quartz crystal, lead crystal, carnelian, emerald, amethyst, jet, garnet, tourmaline, hematite, obsidian, selenite, kyanite, opal and beryl. You can use any sphere that you feel attracted to when looking for a crystal ball or stone sphere. You might want to start out with a less expensive scrying ball to see if this sort of divination suits you. Crystal balls are prized because the crystal is a powerful stone for gaining clarity and opening the third eye. The larger the crystal, the more powerful it is.

Many Asian belief systems use crystal balls including Tibetan, Buddhist and Taoist. The crystal ball also was used in Europe though beryl was used first before Europeans were introduced to the crystal balls. Crystal balls can also be found in South America, Siberia, Australia and Asian countries. A famous historical person who used a crystal ball is John Dee, the seer consultant to Queen Elizabeth I. The stone that John Dee used was an obsidian egg sized sphere that he bought in 1582. John Dee called this obsidian stone the shew-stone. John Dee believed that he communicated with angels through his occult tool.

By finding a crystal ball or polished stone sphere that you are comfortable with, you will be able to start practicing with it. It does not matter what type of sphere you use, as long as you are happy with it. Many other people through the ages have used these occult tools for scrying and this occult practice continues today.
