Grilled Italian Style New York Strip Steak

Grilled Italian Style New York Strip Steak

This grilled New York Strip Steak is smothered in a spicy bell pepper and onion topping.

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 T. dried oregano
  • 3 T. dried basil
  • 1-1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 4 New York Strip Steaks, about 10 oz. each
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup grated Romano cheese
  • 3 large red or yellow bell peppers, seeded and sliced thin
  • 2 large red onions, sliced thin

Preparation -
Mix the minced garlic, oregano, basil, and black pepper together. Rub the mixture into the surface of each strip steak, on both sides. Set the steaks aside. Prepare a charcoal or gas grill for use. Whisk the olive oil, red wine vinegar and grated Romano cheese together in a small bowl; set aside. Place the pepper and onion slices in a grill basket or on a piece of heavy aluminum foil, on the prepared grill, over medium hot coals. Grill for about 15 minutes, turning and brushing occasionally with the oil, vinegar and Romano cheese mixture. Move the pepper and onion mixture mixture away from direct heat and keep warm. Grill the steaks over hot coals for about 7 to 9 minutes per side or to desired doneness. Toss the pepper and onions with the remaining oil, vinegar and Romano cheese mixture. Top the steaks with the pepper and onion mixture before serving.
