Jacquie Lawson E-Cards

There are numerous websites dedicated to sending and receiving online e-cards. Some of these sites are very large sites such as BlueMountainR and some are smaller. But what makes the Jacquie Lawson E-cards website stand out is the quality of the E-cards. These e-cards are mini-movies and are a collaboration of digital artists, a computer musician and a Flash movie animator.

The digital artists use a variety of methods to create the original art and animations for the e-cards. Some artwork is digitally drawn using Corel Photo-Paint. Other artwork is created with traditional methods such as watercolors and then scanned into the computer. From there the artwork is digitally redone into frames and then made into animations. The third technique involves redrawing the video from a video camera into frames that will ultimately result in the real life animations.

On the typical e-card website you will find e-cards with simple gif or flash animations. However the e-cards on the Jacquie Lawson site are mini movies and each e-card tells a story. The stars of these mini movies are the digital representations of two dogs named Chudleigh and Molly and a friendly cat. But it isn't just the main characters that are animated. There are other animations in the background such as people walking in and out of buildings, stars moving in the sky and smoke rising from the rooftops. You need to watch each e-card several times to fully appreciate the complexity.

The background music for the e-cards is of higher quality also. This music is mostly original music created using a computer and several audio editing programs. The result is better then the average music accompanying usual e-cards on the web. The background music for the Lawson e-cards is more "stereo like".

Putting all three of these elements together into a finished e-card can take weeks. Sequencing the animation with the audio is challenging and sometimes time consuming. The final e-card is a delicate balance between file size (which must be kept small to be viewed online) and the high quality of the e-cards. Whether or not you plan to send e-cards this holiday season, take the time to visit the Jacquie Lawson website and view some of these amazing e-cards.
