How to Setup CoffeeCup Direct FTP

After you have decided on an FTP client to use, the next step is to setup your ftp client to upload to your website. In this article, I will give you detailed instructions for how to do this with the CoffeeCup Direct FTPTM software.

Before you can setup your FTP software to upload to your website, you need to choose a web host. When you open an account with a web host, they will give you three pieces of information that you will need in order to use any ftp software. Usually this information is sent to you in a "Welcome" email message.

  1. FTP Server Name
This is the name of your ftp server. This could also be called an ftp address or hostname by your web host and it will look something like the examples below.

    ftp.yourwebsite.com
    yourwebsite.com
111.111.111.1 (these numbers represent your site address)

  2. Default Host Folder
This is the folder that your web host instructs you to upload your files into. This also can be called several names by your web host such as html, site or httpdocs. If you are not sure about this or you were not given this information, you can use the CoffeeCup's default setting.

  3. Username and Password
This is the username and password for logging into your web host account. You will use the same username and password with the FTP software.

If you have all this information, you are ready to start the setup. Open the CoffeeCup Direct FTP software and click File > Add New Server. This will open the user-friendly setup wizard.

Step 1. Server Profile Name
This can be anything you want. It is just the name that will identify your website. If you have more than one website, you might want to give each website a profile name that will identify that website from the others. For example, if you have two websites and one is www.website1.com and the other is www.website2.com, you might give them the profile names of website1 and website2.

Step 2. Username and Password
Here is where you type in the username and password that your web host gave you. Also you will want to select the checkbox next to Save Password.

Step 3. Basic Settings
  • Host Name:
This is the ftp address or ftp server name that your web host gave you in the welcome message.

    Example: ftp.website1.com

  • Default Host Folder:
This can be called many things by your web host. If you are not sure, just leave this blank and use the default setting.

Step 4. Advanced Settings.
You probably do not have a proxy server so leave this at the default setting.

Step 5. Your finished.
Notice the nice advertisement.

You will repeat these steps for each of your websites and then close the wizard.
