There are a number of wren varieties - all small, brown with a white underbelly, a longish beak that is slightly curved downwards, and a pointed-up tail. Most are between 5" and 8" in length, and they tend to eat insects and berries.



The House Wren Troglodytes aedon is common across the entire US, as is the Beewick´s Wren Thryomanes bewickii and Carolina Wren Cistothorus palustris. All tend to live in thickets and underbrush. Their songs are light, trilling songs. The Carolina Wren calls out tea-kettle, tea-kettle, tea-kettle, tea.

The Cactus Wren is the state bird of Arizona.
