When did each state officially enter the United States? We look at each significant date.

December 7, 1787 - Delaware becomes the first official U.S. state.

December 12, 1787 - Pennsylvania becomes the second state

December 18, 1787 - New Jersey becomes the third U.S. state.

January 2, 1788 - Georgia enters the U.S. as the fourth state.

January 9, 1788 - Connecticut is officially the fifth state.

February 6, 1788 - Massachusetts becomes the sixth U.S. state.

April 28, 1788 - Maryland enters the U.S. as the seventh state.

May 23, 1788 - South Carolina becomes the eighth state.

June 21, 1788 - New Hampshire becomes the ninth U.S. state.

June 25, 1788 - Virginia becomes the tenth state.

July 26, 1788 - New York enters as the eleventh state.

November 21, 1789 - North Carolina officially becomes the twelfth state.

May 29, 1790 - Rhode Island becomes the thirteenth state.

March 4, 1791 - Vermont is the fourteenth U.S. state.

June 1, 1792 - Kentucky becomes the fifteenth state.

June 1, 1796 - Tennessee enters the U.S. as the sixteenth state.

March 1, 1803 - Ohio becomes the seventeenth U.S. state.

April 30, 1812 - Louisiana is officially the eighteenth state.

December 11, 1816 - Indiana becomes the nineteenth state.

December 10, 1817 - Mississippi enters the U.S. as the twentieth state.

December 3, 1818 - Illinois becomes the twenty-first state.

December 14, 1819 - Alabama is the twenty-second state.

March 15, 1820 - Maine becomes the twenty-third state.

August 10, 1821 - Missouri enters the U.S. as the twenty-fourth state.

June 15, 1836 - Arkansas is officially the twenty-fifth state.

January 26, 1837 - Michigan becomes the twenty-sixth state.

March 3, 1845 - Florida enters the U.S. as the twenty-seventh state.

December 29, 1845 - Texas becomes the twenty-eighth state.

December 28, 1846 - Iowa is the twenty-ninth state.

May 29, 1848 - Wisconsin becomes the thirtieth state.

September 9, 1850 -California enters the U.S. as the thirty-first state.

May 11, 1858 - Minnesota is officially the thirty-second U.S. state.

February 14, 1859 - Oregon becomes the thirty-third state.

January 29, 1861 - Kansas becomes the thirty-fourth state.

June 20, 1863 - West Virginia enters the U.S. as the thirty-fifth state.

October 31, 1864 - Nevada is the thirty-sixth state.

March 1, 1867 - Nebraska becomes the thirty-seventh state.

August 1, 1876 - Colorado becomes the thirty-eighth U.S. state.

November 2, 1889 - North Dakota is the thirty-ninth U.S. state.

November 2, 1889 - South Dakota enters the U.S. as the fortieth state.

November 8, 1889 - Montana becomes the forty-first state.

November 11, 1889 - Washington is the forty-second U.S. state.

July 3, 1890 - Idaho enters the U.S. as the forty-third state.

July 10, 1890 - Wyoming becomes the forty-fourth state.

January 4, 1896 - Utah is the forty-fifth U.S. state.

November 16, 1907 - Oklahoma becomes the forty-sixth state.

January 6, 1912 - New Mexico enters the U.S. as the forty-seventh state.

February 14, 1912 - Arizona becomes the forty-eighth state.

January 3, 1959 - Alaska becomes the forty-ninth U.S. state.

August 21, 1959 - Hawaii officially becomes the fiftieth U.S. state.
