I had originally hoped to write a glowing review on a product I purchased just last night. For a long time I have been lusting after the Shark Steam Bottle. The infomercials on late night or weekend television make this product seem like the answer to all of my cleaning prayers.
No chemicals! No residue! Cleaner air!
I have been waiting for this product to find its way to the local Big Lots or drug store. I finally found one, the last one in fact, at Big Lots. It had been discounted to only $20! Imagine how happy I was to have not only found the Shark Steam Bottle close to home, but at such a steal. Amazing!
As soon as we brought the product home, I opened the box and read the owner manual. In the interest of giving all of you who visit this site a true and honest review, I knew I needed to follow every step perfectly. No room for mistakes! As per the instructions, I opened the blue fill button on the bottom and carefully poured in a measure 8 ounces of water. Plain tap water. Closed the fill chamber, then plugged the steam bottle into a grounded outlet. In the bathroom, because cleaning a bathroom would be the ultimate test for my steam bottle.
After around 30 seconds, the blue ‘ready’ light was on. Excited, I took the bottle and squeezed the trigger. Nothing. So, I squeezed some more. Still, nothing. After consulting the manual again, I squeezed the trigger 10 times and still had no results. Upon calling the 1-800 number listed on the owner manual for the manufacturer, Euro Pro, I chose the option for ‘Other Products’. There was a wait time of around 5 minutes.
A customer service agent took my call and information. Once we had gone through the collection of my address and telephone number, we got to the meat of the issue. My Shark Steam Bottle doesn’t emit steam. Nothing, nada, zip. I explained to the service representative that I had followed all of the steps as indicated in the user manual to which she replied, “Did you squeeze the trigger hard?”
I don’t think I can squeeze the trigger much harder without it popping off, but of course I replied, “Yes.” I then proceeded to explain all of the steps I had taken, again. Sadly, the representative had no other advice for me than to keep squeezing the trigger and that if I kept doing this, steam would definitely come out of the nozzle. I thanked her and hung up, after registering my product. Then I went on to squeeze my trigger repeatedly.
After much squeezing and a bit of accusing the thing to be out to get me, I have decided that steam will not be coming from this particular steam bottle. I am very disappointed.
Personally, I do not recommend this product.
