Turtles like to take chunks out of things even if they cannot fit the whole thing into their mouths.

The advantage to having the turtles in your tank is that your fish will enjoy seeing the turtles. The turtles stimulate your fish to swim and exercise and interact from the other side of the tank divider. This is the safest way for them to have fun.
