Seattle radio station KUBE93 FM celebrated the station’s 20th birthday with a party that included listeners of the #1 radio station in the city. Tickets for the event cost $45 but it was well worth the price of admission ...especially when the roster of performers was announced. The venue, I-Spy, is a nightclub which would make this “concert” an up close & personal one.
Newcomer Olivia, who’s chart climbing debut hit “Bizounce”, destined to be the anthem all over for women who are sick & tired of unworthy men in their lives, performed first at the station’s party/concert. On the small wooden stage, Olivia sang as her 2 female dancers danced aggressively behind her. As she belted out the explicit version of “Bizounce”, the women in the crowd went wild! Easy to see these women could relate to Olivia’s song. She slowed down the tempo with an emotional song “Silly B*tch In Love” which tells the story of what women will do & put up with from a man when in love. Her performance was energetic & set the tone for the show to follow.
KUBE93 favorite, Ginuwine put on a show that lives up to his name. Flanked by a singing & dancing crew, he entertained like a true veteran as he encouraged the crowd to sing the hook from his very first single, “Pony” with him. He danced, gyrated & wow’d the ladies in the crowd with his singing. The women who were lucky enough to be in the front row, screamed with excitement with outstretched arms. These same outstretched arms almost ripped the pants off of Ginuwine as he sang...literally. He performed his current song “There It Is”, a song about a man who’s not appreciated by his woman as he declares in the song’s chorus ”I´m not doing this s**t for nothing /I pay the car note, light bill, house note/ What you think, this s**t´s for nothing?/ You´re not workin´/ So what more you want?”. Even some of the women in the crowd could feel Ginuwine’s pain in that one!
Florida rapper, Trick Daddy was the performance that caught me off guard. The infectious beat yet sexually explicit lyrics in “Nann N*gga”, got everyone boppin’ & groovin’. “Shut Up” & his current hit “Take It To Da House” (done with female rapper Trina & the Slip ‘n Slip Allstars) have everyone who was able to move in the packed club MOVE & sing along. His high energy show created a definate party-like atmosphere. The fellas, along with the ladies loved when Trina (“Baddest B*tch”) came on the stage & did her parts in the above songs. Trick Daddy & crew really energized the entire night.
Last but not least & LOUDLY the favorite among the anxious crowd of female fans was Jon B. Delayed by the attack of over-eager, Jon B lovin’, females as he signed autographs on the upper level of the club, the show was temporarily put on standby. When it was announced that “Jon B will be on the stage in 5 minutes”, a rush of excitement came over the crowd. When Jon took the stage, his performance was well worth the wait...and heat! He sang his current hit “Don’t Talk”. His hit making songs picked up right where he left off since his last effort in 1997 with his album “Cool Relax”...doing cuts off of “Cool Relax” like “Are You Still Down?” (w/Tupac), the sweet “I Do (Whatcha Say Boo) and the popular “They Don’t Know”, all of which he performed as everyone sang & danced along.
The KUBE93 DJ’s entertained & interacted with the crowd between performances. They kept the energy & excitement level high for the performers throughout the nite. With the doors opening at roughly 830pm, the concert/party didn’t end until after 1am! Now that’s how a party’s supposed to be!
