Possibly as many as 40 million Working families in the USA have no medical coverage. While I haven't needed to go to a Dr. in years---we are lucky in that the my hubby has medical coverage from the place he works for which we pay roughly $100 dollars a month (hurrah union!!) For families working in places which do not offer medical benefits many states now state sponsored group medical insurance plans. This is not Medicaide (for the truly impoverished) or Medicare (available to disabled or retired Americans). These plans exist to cover Children and many states also offer a program for the Whole Family.
In NY State USA they offer:
Child Health Plus

and
a link to Family Health Plus for the whole family.
All US states off some sort of health insurance for children of working families and many offer whole family programs.
Check out your state at:

Kids that do not currently have health insurance are likely to be eligible, even if you are working. The states have different eligibility rules, but in most states, uninsured children 18 years old and younger, whose families earn up to $34,100 a year (for a family of four) are eligible.
