How To Install The Sokkit Webserver Toolkit

Now that you have downloaded the Sokkit Webserver Toolkit, you are ready to install Sokkit on your computer and write your first program. Actually Sokkit is self installing which means that you will be up and running in a few minutes.

Note: For those programmers that have other web servers such as IIS or PWS installed on their computers, you need to be sure that you do not have any other web servers running on port 80. Sokkit needs to run on port 80. If you have a previous version of Sokkit installed-remove it. Or do you have an IIS or PWS web server installed for programming with ASP? If so you will need to move them to another port. If you are not sure if you have another web server installed on your computer, then you probably do not have anything running on port 80 anyway and you are ready to install Sokkit.

Click on the downloaded file to start the installation. When the installation screen appears, accept the default location for installation.
Next you will see the Sokkit Registration screen. When you purchased the software, you were sent a registration key. You now need to type (or copy and paste) this key into the installation screen. You also need to type in the email address that you used when you purchased Sokkit. (You must use the same email address that you used when you purchased Sokkit.)
Next you will see the Sokkit Configuration screen where you will set up a password. This is the password that you will use to login to the MySQL admin screen (PHPMyAdmin). We will install MySQL later.
On the configuration screen, you will choose the type of installation you prefer for PHP. You will want to use the Standard installation setting. This setting has the register_globals option turned off. The creators of the PHP language have made this safety improvement with version 4.2 of PHP. If you need to work with older PHP programs that require that the register_globals are turned on, you can use another setting.
Finally click Save to save your configuration settings. You should now be at the Sokkit Control Panel. In the Web Server Controls section, it should say that the web server is on or "Running on port 80". If it says that it is off or Stopped, click on the Start Web Server button. After a few sections it should say "Running on port 80".
We will now verify that PHP is installed and running. Click on the Localhost phpinfo() button. You should see the PHP Version 4.3.4 page.

What's next? Your web server will be running as Localhost on port 80. Also you will need to put your php program files in the following location so that the web server can find them.
