Hairy Woodpecker
The Hairy Woodpecker, or Picoides villosus, is often confused with its smaller relative, the Downy Woodpecker. Both have striped black heads, with the females having a red dot on the back of the head.

Hermit Thrush
The hermit thrush is a small brown bird with a spotted breast, and is the only thrush to stay in colder climates year-round. That makes it the perfect state bird for Vermont.

Heron, Great Blue
The Great Blue Heron is found all over the north American continent. It enjoys streams, rivers and ponds. It enjoys fishing at dusk and dawn.

Heron, Great White
The Great White Heron is the white morph of the Great Blue Heron. It is only found in southern Florida.

Herring Gull
The Herring Gull is the most common gull found in the US, and is in just about every sea area from Florida to Alaska. Larus aargentatus is around 25" long and has a wingspan of almost 60".

House Finch
The House Finch, or Carpodacus mexicanus, is found in all parts of the US, and even in lower Canada and upper Mexico. It is a small, brown bird, with the males having red on its head and front of the chest.

Hummingbird
Hummingbirds are many birders´ favorite birds. They´re tiny and cute, have little wings that beat at an amazing speed, can hover, fly backwards, and love nectar. Hikers can often hang little nectar feeders at campsites and have flying companions to keep them company.
