John Osher Invented the Spinning Lollipop
Here's what he did next:
Where Do You Go For New Ideas?
Where do you go for new ideas or to find inspiration on enhancing the offering of your company or new venture? How about going to Wal Mart? Yes. Wal Mart. You can do as John did and walk the isle of the toothbrush section and see how you can do it better.
Well, you may want to pick another isle because John has already tapped into revamping the toothbrush by making one that's affordable and that spins. But not to worry, there are millions of products in any retail establishment that you can revolutionize.
This prospecting exercise is not limited to products it can also be applied to services. Open a phone book…if you can still find one. Pick a category or service that you’re interested in. Look at the ads and see what is being offered. What is the carpenter offering that you can do better? Or the home stager? You can take a service based on what you already know how to do and apply it to another type of service, product or industry.
Help Someone Create a New System
For example, an extremely organized office manager who kept everyone organized and projects coming in on time, can take those same skills and become a productivity consultant. Do you know that there are many professionals who would love you to help them become more productive by creating working systems they can follow to stay on track?
This week Rupert Murdock introduced the new Daily app for the iPad. He is doing an old thing a new way. Now iPad users have a new interactive delivery system where they not only read the news, they connect with it. With crystal clear images, and up to the minute updates and breaking news, this app is a present day wonder and it’s exciting! You’re skills or your company doesn’t have to go the way of the dinosaur just because times have changed, you can change with them.
This one quality is vitally important in order to reposition yourself in a new market place. You don’t have to be out of work just because the industry that you used to work in no longer exists. Take what you have and attach it to something else and begin to set a new course for yourself and others.
