Gansey - or Guernsey -A style of sweaters made for fishermen. These sweaters are knit tightly with tightly spun yarn, that help repel water. Fishing villages created their own patterns, supposedly making the identification of drowned fishermen easier. Complicated, knit purl patterns and very tight necks and cuffs distinguish them from other fishermen's sweaters.

Gift - Knitting for others, whom you know, and who will hopefully appreciate the time and effort that goes into making a garment. One important thing to remember is that once given the knitter has no claim on how the item is worn, treated or whether or not the recipient even keeps it.

Intarsia - Knitting marked by blocks of colors. The yarn is not carried along the back of the work, but is broken off and reattached when needed. There are many examples of Intarsia knitting, but Kaffe Fassett in my opinion, is the undisputed master.

Lace - Knitting with holes? Okay, much, much more than that, it is knitting with combinations of yarn overs and knitting stitches together in such a way as to make intricate patterns that often become heirlooms. See or more on the subject.

Mindless Knitting - Any knitting that is so familiar to you that you can practically do it in your sleep. It is restful, and offers you the comfort of mastery.

Mitered - Noble Knits has the best definition, "What makes a mitered square so unique is that you cast on the number of stitches for the sides and then decrease stitches in the middle."
