Actor Spotlight: Michael Easton

You may know him as John McBain, the sexy and brooding star of One Life to Live, but Michael Easton is a multi-talented guy. In addition to acting, he’s a writer, director, editor, photographer and poet.

Michael is a longtime veteran of the soap world, first appearing on Days of Our Lives as Tanner Scofield in 1991. He later landed on the ABC soap opera, Port Charles, where he made his mark (pun intended) as vampire, Caleb Morley. He starred on that show until 2003 when it was cancelled. That led him to his current role, where he plays the rebel and antihero policeman, John McBain.

Easton’s many television credits include recurring roles on Mutant X, Ally McBeal, and The Practice. Other credits include: Total Recal 2070, 413 Hope St., Two, and VR.5.

Easton’s first volume of poetry entitled, “Eighteen Straight Whiskeys”, was published in 1995. The collection of poems, which Easton calls “a dark ride”, was inspired by his mother’s death from ovarian cancer. On a side note, the photograph on the cover of the book, taken by Easton, is a picture of the son of Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio Vega on OLTL).

A short film that Michael wrote, produced and edited entitled, “Daedalus is Dead", was purchased by the Sundance Channel in 2000. Another screenplay he wrote, “Monty”, is based on the life of actor Montgomery Clift and if that’s not enough, he’s working with novelist Peter Straub on a series for DC Comics/Vertigo, "Tales from the Green Woman".

Easton’s current project is the debut of his first graphic novel, “Soul Stealer”. If you’re not familiar with the genre, a graphic novel is usually a type of comic book aimed at mature audiences, but has a longer and more complicated storyline that is similar to a novel.

The book follows the story of 3000 year-old Kalen, in search of his one love, Oxania. It is illustrated by Christopher Shy (aka "Ronin") and will make its premier at the Wizard World Chicago Comicon Convention on June 27 and 28.
