Tips from Golf Professional

Our Pro Matt Somerfield has been an excellent addition to our club. He is personable, helpful in every way to our membership. He is young but a very dedicated golfer to our club with all its hard times and good. Hard times meaning destruction after our numerous floods and right on the ball to clear pathways of working out an 18 hole layout. I accused him of dreaming up this last golf layout on one of his sleepless nights. He was diligent in getting this new lay out ready in due time after all the mess the floods left us. We are fortunate to have Matt as he adds so much to our club.

I have approach Matt if I could use his tips, suggestions and help that he passes along here on my golf web site. He has agreed to do this so will start with the bulletin board I worked up after our LGA President Janet Gravette asked me to prepare for the coming year. She wanted to inform our players of Matt’s suggestions to help our ladies group during this year. Matt has agreed to also let me add these to my web site.

Since a massive change with our Mill Creek Golf Club, Matt has been moved up to Manager and Golf Professional. The owner of our golf course has been going through some tough times with the many floods and needed to cut employees and new management. This will be extra work for Matt but he seems to be handling it well. The tip during the past few months has been for proper dress for winter playing golf. He recommended layering on your clothes to several layers as this will keep you warm. Also he suggested drink plenty of water and use lotions to keep hands from drying. Drier air of winter is hard on your skin so keep it moisturized.

He now has posted information on the bulletin board of the Ladies upcoming Member/Guest tournament to be held on May 19, 2011. He has a signup sheet were members can list themselves and their guests. He will be in charge of this tournament with some help from the Ladies Golf Association. We are hoping he has another putting contest where he lays out a six hole surface on our putting green. It was a great success last year.

Matt came to work at Mill Creek when he was a student at Mary Hardin Baylor with is located in Belton, Texas next to Salado. He became a full time employee after graduating and began his studies to become a full Golf Professional. Matt is a hard worker and diligent in trying to make Mill Creek Golf Club a great place to play golf. We are looking forward to working with Matt this year to receiving his tips to help us all become a better golfer and a more congenial out on the golf course.
