Writing eBooks can be a very profitable and career enhancing endeavor. When you add eReaders to the mix and the traffic of Amazon.com, you have a win-win for everyone.

Amazon Kindle is an easy platform to write for. You simply create your work in one of six acceptable formats, then you upload it to the Amazon Kindle site and they do the heavy lifting by converting your book to their Kindle format.

There are three things you need to prepare first: A digital image of your book, information about your book, and have a digital file of your book . It can be in Microsoft Word, HTML, ePub, PDF, Plain Text, or Mobi Pocket format.

Sign into Kindle Direct Publishing, https://kdp.amazon.com/ using your Amazon.com account, or set up a new account free. You'll arrive at your bookshelf. This area shows you all your books and whether they are in published or draft format. Click the "Add New Title" button. Fill in your book title and description. This is the description a customer will see when they shop the Amazon.com website.

The next few steps are quick and easy. First, add contributors. Use this to identify the author, editor, illustrator or other contributors. In publishing details, you will choose a language. You can choose from 11 different languages.

Next, you will pick your publication date and enter the publishers name. If you are self-publishing, your name goes here. ISBN is optional. You do not need to have an ISBN number for your kindle book in order to publish it.

Next, you will need to select categories that Amazon.com customers will search under for the type of book you have written. Add some search terms here to help people find your work. Upload your digital book cover. You can use either .jpeg or .tif/tiff formats.

Digital Rights Management or DMR, allows you to limit the ability of your readers to share your book with other readers for free. When you choose Digital Rights Management, people who buy your book cannot share it with others. If you would like your book to be shared, check: ”do not enable digital rights management.”

Upload your book in one of the available formats listed above. Click save and continue and Amazon will convert your book into the Kindle format for you.

Now, the publishing aspect of your new kindle book is done. There a few more things to choose and you are finished.

Rights and Pricing section. First, you choose the rights you own for your book. Next you choose the royalty option. If you price your book between $2.99 and $9.99 in the U.S., you can choose the 70% royalty option. If your price is outside of that range you can choose their 30% royalty.

That's it! You are all done. Your book is being published right now.

English books usually publish within 24 hours.

On your bookshelf your book status will be listed as "in review" until it is published.
