Ceres, Celestial Legend

Ceres, Celestial Legend, which is known as Ayashi no Ceres in Japan, is based on a manga series written by Yuu Watase.

The main character of the series is a high school student named Aya Mikage. She, along with her twin brother, Aki, are about to turn 16 years old. The day before their birthday, Aya's friends make her see a psychic. The psychic tells her some cryptic things, but from the sound of the fortune, it sounds rather dire. Afterward, as Aya, Aki, and their friends head home, Aya takes on a thief who has snatched a purse from a woman on the street. Aya manages to retrieve the purse, but she starts to fall from the skybridge to the street below. As she falls, Aya has visions she can't explain, and ends up floating toward the ground, and doesn't get a scratch on her. As she's taking this all in, a car is headed right in her direction; however, she is pushed out of the way at the last minute by a mysterious man. The man disappears before Aya can thank him for saving her life.

On the day of their 16th birthday, the twins are commanded to go to their grandfather's house after school. When they get there, they find that their parents, all of their aunts and uncles, and their grandfather are all there, seated around a table. The twins are handed a box to open as a present, and the box is brought into the room by the mysterious man who saved Aya the previous day. The present, which has a darkened hand inside of it, turns out to be a test to see if they have enough angel or celestial blood in them. When Aya sees the hand, she has the visions she saw the previous day.

It is revealed that Aya is the reincarnation of a celestial maiden named Ceres, who wants to have revenge of the Mikage family for stealing her celestial robe and preventing her from returning home to heaven. Aki, meanwhile, is taken over by the hateful spirit of "Mikagi," the Mikage family ancestor who stole Ceres' robe. Throughout the series, Aya is constantly being pursued by members of her own family, in the hopes of killing her to get rid of the manifestation of Ceres.

Ceres, Celestial Legend is not an anime series being targeted at younger viewers. There's some blood near the end of the first episode, and there is subject matter that appears later in the series that make this an anime property that is more appropriate for older teens and adults. Personally, I would recommend Ceres, Celestial Legend to anime viewers who are 16 or 17 years of age and older.
