WebCards as Facebook Fan Page

Now that we have WebCards installed and tested, we can look at the plans we have for the software. In the tutorial example, we will be using WebCards to create a Facebook Fan Page for marketing a ecard website. Basically, a Facebook Fan Page displays in an iframe on Facebook and will function much like a website inside that frame. Because this is being used as a way to market the main ecard site, we will offer a small subset of the ecards that will be available on the site. The user will preview, choose and send the ecard from the fan page. The only Facebook specification that we need to follow is the maximum width for the area of 510 pixels.

So that our system can act as a Facebook Fan Page, we will need to make some more changes in the WebCards Admin area. For example, the Facebook app will not require the user to log in to the ecard site. So we will turn off the WebCards login/registration feature. We will also turn off the WebCards address book and contacts features. The other changes will be removing some of the WebCards extras such as the calendar and search cloud. This will allow us to keep the Facebook iframe uncluttered.

Login to the Admin area and let's make those changes. We will start in the Configuration section - Member Settings.

Registration Function - Turn off

Member, Google, Live and Yahoo contact options - Turn off

At the bottom of the page -

User Upload - Turn off

Facebook Registration - Turn off

Let's switch to the Card Settings and make some more changes.

Card Expiration - Let's change this from 10 years to 30 days

In the bottom section -

Pickup Notification - Turn on

Later Date - Turn off

Audio - Turn off

Stamp - Turn off

Poem - Turn off

Now we are ready to get our hands dirty in the WebCards templates.
