I found this: A community of God’s people that organizes its life around the purpose of being an agent of God’s mission to the world. The Bible tells us that, as Christians, our mission is to know and love God and to love others. This is every Christian’s primary mission. The dilemma that author Helen Lee addresses is what happens when a Christian woman becomes a mother. At that time, many would tell us that our primary mission is to devote our lives to loving and raising our children.
Ms Lee shares in her book that when she became a mother, she wondered if motherhood was really the life that God had intended for her. She failed to see the joy in the grind of day in and day out mothering. She wondered what she was supposed to do with all of the experience, education, talents, and gifts that were hers before she entered into this new role in life. Many women would privately agree with her.
In her book, The Missional Mom, Living With Purpose At Home & In The World, Lee points out that mothers have a dual mission in life. The primary mission, as with every Christian, is to love and know God and the secondary mission is the training of the next generation - pointing their children toward the primary mission.
The missional mom acknowledges her primary mission in every aspect of life in her home and raising her children - teaching by example. If any of us has a question of how to do this, Helen Lee takes the missional life apart, piece by piece, and effectively shows what each part looks like.
Some of the intriguing chapters describing the missional mom cover topics such as:
- How she embraces the call of God
- How she resists cultural pressures
- How she is a cultural rebel
- How she loves the ‘least of these”
- How she creates missional families
- How she is a culture maker
- How she needs missional community
- And how she surrenders all
Ms Lee has an easy to read writing style and is a great story teller. I recommend this book for the new mom, the experienced mom, the grand-mom or anyone wondering how to more effectively fulfill their mission in God‘s Kingdom.
