Gravitation

Gravitation is an anime based on the manga series written by Maki Murakami.

Shuichi Shindou is the main character of Gravitation. He is an aspiring singer and songwriter, and he has formed the band Bad Luck with his best friend, Hiroshi Nakano. While Shuichi is an energetic and good-natured teen, Hiroshi serves as a "big brother" to Shuichi. Hiroshi, who goes by Hiro for short, is quiet and tries to serve as a voice of reason.

One evening, as Shuichi is walking home, he's looking over the lyrics for a song he's been writing, and the wind blows the sheet of paper away. The paper is caught by a tall blond man, who reads it. The man tells Shuichi the lyrics are bad, that a grade schooler could have written them better, and that Shuichi has no talent. This angers Shuichi, but he finds himself fascinated by this stranger.

It turns out the stranger is a famous romance novelist named Eiri Yuki. He's cynical and blunt, and tends to have a negative view of people and life. Even though Eiri is a romance novelist, he doesn’t make any emotional attachments with the women he gets involved with. It turns out that Shuichi has fallen in love with Eiri and chases him around. However, Eiri rejects Shuichi and verbally abuses him. The story follows Shuichi and his attempts to win Eiri's heart.

Gravitation is a boys' love anime series, and falls into the shonen-ai category. Shonen-ai is used to describe titles that focus on the romance side and don't include explicit sexual content, although implied sexual content can be included. When it comes to the animation, the credits and the early part of the first episode of the anime series combined live-action and animation sequences for no real apparent reason. Personally, I found that to be a distraction. The animation used in the anime series was rather standard, and had nothing to really make it stand out.

With the genre and subject matter of this series, I cannot recommend this series for younger viewers. Personally, I would recommend Gravitation to anime viewers who are 16 or 17 years of age and older.
