The new programmable slow cookers are ideal for starting the cooking while the cook is away from home. If the slow cooker isn’t programmable, timers are available at discount stores; simply set the start time, plug the timer into the outlet, and plug the slow cooker (turned on) into the timer. Cooking time for rice is variable, due to the difference in slow cookers. If the slow cooker is one manufactured during the 70’s or 80’s, it will have a lower cooking temperature and food will take longer to cook. The new slow cookers cook much faster due to higher cooking temperatures.
