Slow Cooker White Rice Recipe

Slow cookers are among the most versatile timesaving appliances on the market today. In fact, almost any food can be cooked in one, including Slow Cooker Plain White Rice. While rice can be cooked on top of the stove or in a rice cooker in about 20 minutes, sometimes the timing isnít convenient. Since rice cooks for 1 1/2 to 2 hours unattended in the slow cooker, it is sometimes easier to plan for it to have a longer cooking time, especially if a main dish is cooking in another slow cooker alongside the rice. Hands-on time is less than 5 minutes, and thereís no need to wait for the water to boil like the stovetop method.

The new programmable slow cookers are ideal for starting the cooking while the cook is away from home. If the slow cooker isnít programmable, timers are available at discount stores; simply set the start time, plug the timer into the outlet, and plug the slow cooker (turned on) into the timer. Cooking time for rice is variable, due to the difference in slow cookers. If the slow cooker is one manufactured during the 70ís or 80ís, it will have a lower cooking temperature and food will take longer to cook. The new slow cookers cook much faster due to higher cooking temperatures.
