100 Mile Club

Ready for a bit of a challenge, walkers? Then, join our 100 Mile Club. There are no entry blanks, no entry fees, no meetings, no dues! The 100 Mile Club is to recognize readers who walk 100 or more miles in the next few months (until the end of 2007.) Then, we will start a new club for next year, with more mileage categories. .

Joggers or runners are welcome, too!

Just keep a log of your walking mileage for the rest of 2007 and when you reach 100 miles, send me your name and email address via the Comment Submission Form. Then, I’ll send you a certificate of achievement from the BellaOnline Walking 100 Mile Club. The certificate will be sent in MSWord or pdf format that you can print out and frame it if you wish.

This Club will run for the remainder of 2007, so you have a few months to get those miles in. Actually, at this writing, you can walk just one mile a day and still reach 100 miles by the end of the year. If you walk 2 miles, four times a week, that equals eight miles a week. At that rate, in just over 12 weeks, you will have walked 100 miles. There are fifteen weeks left, so you will need to walk at least 6.67 miles per week to make it to 100 miles by the end of the year.

Here are some ways to help you get those 100 miles:

--Walk for twenty minutes after lunch and after dinner (two to three miles).

--Get a walking DVD, like Leslie Sansone - Walk the Walk 3-DVD Set (Miracle Mile / Two Mile Walk / Weight Loss Walk 4 Miles) that you can use no matter what the weather or where you live.

--Walk your dog. Or walk someone else’s dog.

--Meet a friend for a walk instead of lunch.

--Walk with your children every day after school or work.

--Buy new audiobooks (see discount link below) to play on your mp3 player as you walk. Two of my favorites recently are
Water for Elephants (Unabridged)

and
The Memory of Running (Unabridged)

. Both are long books, so they will last for quite a few walks.

--Include a long walk of an hour or more on the weekends. Walking longer when you have time will help the miles add up. Plus, you will feel great!

Welcome to the 100 Mile Club! Join us in the Walking Forums, too and post your progress, challenge another member, or just get some motivation and support!
