Into the Night

Hello, and welcome back! It's far too hot and sticky here for this early in the spring, but it looks like we might get some cooler weather again in another day or so, which will make me very happy, as I'll be able to go outside with my reading material again. Right now, I'm stuck indoors with a cold drink at hand, and a fan to move some air around. Yuck.

Janelle Denison is back this month after a very long absence with Into the Night (St. Martinís, received from publisher). This one kicks off a new series featuring the Reliance Group, with Nathan Fox doing double duty, working with both the Reliance Group and heading security at the Onyx Casino. His latest assignment for TRG hits terribly close to home, and itís about to be even more complicated when reporter Nicole Hutton gets her nose into his case. Nicole is working a story about a missing girl, and her lead just happens to put her on a collision course with Nathan and his investigation. Their only option is to work together, which makes resisting the attraction they share impossible to resist. Iíd been looking at this one at the bookstore before it arrived with my review books, and thought the story looked interesting. But in beginning to read this one, itís quite slow to start, with what feels like a substantial 'info dump' early on, which I found disappointing. Sadly, for me, by the time this one picks up, I was bored with it and not interested in further reading. I was very disappointed by that, as I still have some of Ms. Denisonís old Harlequin titles on my keeper shelves. Iíll have to get one or more of those out to reread. The story also has some aspects I found troubling, in particular, the role Nicole plays in their undercover work. I've seen other authors deal with similar topics, and I have to say, I've enjoyed some of those more, especially one by Christy Reece. Too bad. I'm only borrowing two and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one.

Until next time, happy reading!
