A Sense of Sin

Hello, and welcome back! I hope spring has arrived for all of you, as it finally has here. Along with getting to sit outside with my books now, I get to play in the flowerbeds, too. My boss brought me some herb seedlings to put into the beds this weekend. I can hardly wait to be able to use them as I’m cooking. While I’m waiting for that, however, I can admire them as I’m doing my reading on the porch beside that bed.

This time out, I have Elizabeth Essex’s A Sense of Sin (Brava, received from publisher). Rupert Delacorte, Viscount Darling, has decided to ruin Miss Celia Burke for her role in his beloved sister’s death. Celia is terrified, as she’s being blackmailed about her friend’s death. Darling is clearly up to no good, with his seductive looks and words, and Celia soon begins to wonder if he might be behind the blackmail letters. Little does she know he’s wondering something similar about her. Even though neither trusts the other, they will have to band together to solve the mystery of her blackmailer and just what did happen to his sister, her friend. They need to deal, too, with the heat that flares between them every time they’re near, and that will require one or both of them to develop at least a bit of trust in the other. This one has plenty of heat between the lead pair, though I didn’t like the suspense aspect of the story nearly as much. Celia and Del have much in common, despite their rocky start, and the innocent miss can’t possibly resist the much more experienced rogue bent on her seduction and ruination. Nor can he keep to his determination to seduce her without touching her either. The romance is hot, as is the hero. I’m borrowing three of Cupid’s five arrows for this one. I don’t think this one’s a keeper, but the author has potential, so I'll say keep an eye on future books by this lady.

Until next time, happy reading!
