One of the main characters in the series is Mister, a criminal mastermind who has so many aliases that everyone simply refers to him as "Mister." He is the captain of the starship Coyote. Mister is trying to find the 10 billion space dollars the legendary Pirate King Bruce has bequeathed to his young daughter, Franca. All he knows is that the treasure is located somewhere on the planet Graceland. However, there is such a state of civil war on the planet that the president of the Milky Way Federation has threatened to blow up the planet within a week. Mister is joined by his two sidekicks, Bishop and Katana. Bishop doesn't take criticism well, but he's a reliable genius. Katana is the pilot of the Coyote who is reckless and doesn't take things very seriously.
Angelica Burns is a private investigator from the Federation Bureau. She's been chasing after Mister for four years, but he always manages to stay one step ahead of her. Chelsea Muir is a young police officer, who ends up becoming Angelica's partner. Chelsea is a bit of a ditzy blond; however, she does have a good memory.
Madame Marciano is a high-ranking official of the Syndicate Guild; however, she broke away and formed her own syndicate named "Criminal Guild." She commands the 12 Sisters, a squad of hitwomen made up of robots that look like young goth girls; they are named after the twelve months of the Gregorian calendar. Madame Marciano is the one who is behind the killing of Pirate King Bruce.
When FUNimation released Coyote Ragtime Show, they gave the series a rating of TV-14. For the most part, I would agree with this rating. Visually, there was a bit of blood that appeared on the screen near the end of the first episode. The English dub also slips in some profanity in the dialogue, especially from the 12 Sisters. Personally, I would recommend Coyote Ragtime Show to anime viewers who are 16 or 17 years of age and older.
