Cluster Edge

Cluster Edge is an anime series created by the Sunrise animation studio.

The series opens with a battle taking place between two factions, and both sides utilizing artificial soldiers; they were created to serve as soldiers, so as to not lose lives of actual humans during the fighting. The two sides agree to an armistice, and both sides promise not to utilize their artificial soldiers again in the future. However, some in the religious sect doubt this, since time and again, man forgets his foolishness and engages in more battles and wars.

The main character of the series is Agate Fluorite. He's a new transfer student at an elite school called Cluster E.A. It's a school where the sons of many prestigious families go to get their education. In the first episode, Agate is riding on the train on his way to the school. He encounters Beryl Jasper, an honor student at Cluster E.A. who hates his family. Agate develops a crush on Beryl.

Their trip to Cluster E.A. is stalled when the train is halted on the tracks by the military; it turns out a battle is going on. Agate has brought his plane on board the train, which he has hidden under a tarp. He reveals the plane, gets into it, and tries to help out at the battle. As he helps an artificial soldier named Chalce, Agate triggers a strange power that pulls the two of them away from the battle. After rescuing Chalce, Agate finds a way to get to Cluster E.A. and begin his schooling. At the school, he impresses his fellow schoolmates with his antics and enthusiasm in life. Agate's adventures continue as he adjusts to life at Cluster E.A. As the series progresses, secrets will be revealed that will change the course of Agate's life.

Cluster Edge definitely includes elements of shonen ai, also known as boys' love. However, there are also elements that include science fiction and the military. While I didn't see anything too terribly inappropriate in the visuals for younger viewers, I believe that the type of storytelling used in the series is not being aimed at a younger audience. Personally, I would recommend Cluster Edge to anime viewers who are 15 or 16 years of age and older.
