One story that has been sort of tucked away is the possibility of the United States seeking peace with a top Taliban leader, Mullah Mohammed Omar. So what is the reason for this potential peace-seeking opportunity? It is to finally get our troops out of Afghanistan.

We know that it’s time to get out of there. In fact, it has been time for a long time! We should have pulled our service men and women out of there much earlier. Now that we have made a huge dent in the al Qaeda movement with the death of Osama Bin Laden, we now have even greater reason to get out.

However we also know that it can’t be done without some serious strategic planning. Yet…is peacemaking really a valid plan?

We know that the likelihood of Afghanistan getting taken over by terrorists is very strong. So it causes us to hesitate and now think of possible new strategies for making it a smooth transition. But seeking peace with a top Taliban leader?

Is there not a clear understanding of the hatred that the Taliban has for America? What do you think “Death to America!” means? It means they have no regard for our citizens. They have no regard for our lives; we are nothing but infidels to them. They want to see our country fall, so why in the world would anyone think there is any possibility of actually having a sensible conversation with them?

Does anyone in their right mind actually think that we can convince the Taliban to lay down their weapons? That we are somehow going to link arms and sing, “Kumbaya?” They are our enemy and nothing is going to change that.

You can’t negotiate or compromise with evil. Evil is not something that can be blanketed with peace. We cannot control what happens in Afghanistan. We can’t control or parent or patrol that country or any other country.

It has long been overdue that we get out of Afghanistan. I surely hope that President Obama and others don’t really believe that peace between the Taliban and America is possible.
