Demonbane

Demonbane is an anime series based on an eroge PC game.

Daiijuji Kurou is the main character in Demonbane. He's a broke detective who receives an offer from a member of one of the most respected families in Arkham City. His assignment is to look for a book that's a magical item, and the woman hiring him pays an impressive sum for the assignment. As Daiijuji searches for the item, he comes across a strange bookstore he's never seen before. He meets the mysterious proprietor, who gives him a prediction that his life will change drastically.

After leaving the store, a mysterious young woman who's being chased by a group called the Black Lodge falls from the sky. The woman uses magic to protect herself, but uses too much energy and becomes weak. Daiijuji takes the woman with him, and they end up being pursued by the Black Lodge. It turns out the girl is Al Azif, and she is actually the magic artifact that Daiijuji is looking for. Al uses her power to bestow powerful magic on Daiijuji. She also activates Demonbane, a Deus Machina, to combat the Black Lodge.

The anime series has connections to author H.P. Lovecraft. For example, the setting of the series (Arkham, Massachusetts) was created by H.P. Lovecraft. The title of the first episode, "I Am Providence," comes from a line in a letter H.P. Lovecraft had written. "The Shadow Over Innsmouth," the title of the fifth episode, is also the title of a story written by H.P. Lovecraft.

Demonbane attempts to combine elements from mecha, action, and harem anime series. It's a rather odd combination, and I'm not entirely convinced that it works. When it comes to the content, there was a fanservice shot in the first episode, which was a panty shot. Considering that Demonbane is based on an eroge PC game, there is more than likely similar content in the other episodes. With the origins of the series, as well as the content contained within the episodes, I would not recommend this series to younger viewers. Personally, I would recommend Demonbane to anime viewers who are 16 or 17 years of age and older.
