Taylor 5593F Bathroom Scale

The Taylor 5593 scale series is a fairly basic scale compared with many others on the market - it measures your weight, your body fat, and your body water percentage. I'll note that the one I have seems to be a slightly different model than the photo shown - mine has three metal stripes in each spot that this one has a metal rectangle. Still, they seem to be pretty much identical other than that.

Taylor 5593F Bathroom Scale We have tried many scales over the years in our testing process, and the first thing we noticed about this one was that it was fairly flimsy. The plastic feels cheap. When standing on it, it's almost as if the scale bows under your weight. That's not a good feeling.

There is a nice, fairly large two line readout so you can see both your weight and one other statistic at the same time. You can have up to four users in its memory, which is good for most households. However the buttons you use to select which person you are are fairly flimsy.

We didn't order this scale. What happened is we owned the better Taylor 5596G scale which also measures muscle mass, bone weight, and so on. The 5596G scale failed on us in a pretty dismal way. Over a series of months it started slowly displaying smaller and smaller weights in a manner which made us believe that we were actually losing weight. It took a few months before we realized the scale was going insane. When we asked Taylor for a replacement, they sent us this 5593 model, which is a far cheaper model and only has half the functionality. So it was an extra insult for the scale to be so - comparatively - shoddily made. I adored the sturdiness of the 5596G and its more robust functionality - at least of course until it started giving false readings!

So I don't think I'd ever order this scale deliberately. There are other scales on the market which do these same operations and which are more sturdy.

Also note that this scale tops out at 350lb.

FTC Note: We received our 5593F Taylor scale as our warranty replacement when our 5596G scale failed, so in that sense I suppose you could say we got it for "free".
