InDesign CS5.5 New Features

There are many new features in InDesignR CS5.5 that will help your workflow for designing and publishing documents for tablets, smartphones and computers.

Besides being integrated with PhotoshopR, IllustratorR, AcrobatR and FlashR, InDesign is now integrated with the Folio Producer tools and the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite via the new Folio Builder panel extension. Another new folio feature is the Overlay Creator panel extension where you can create interactive overlays which allow panorama views, scrolling and panning and the ability to view objects in 360 degrees. These overlays can be previewed directly from within InDesign's Content Viewer. When you are ready to publish you can connect to the Digital Publishing Suite services from within the InDesign workspace via the new plugin.

Creating accessibility compliant PDFs that better support screen readers is easier now that InDesign has the new Object Export Options dialog box. This is where you can add PDF and alt tags. You can also tell InDesign to ignore these export settings for any object.

When designing EPUB ebooks in InDesign, you have many improvements and new features added since InDesign CS5. You will use the new Articles panel to control what content, such as text blocks, images and threaded text, will be exported to your EPUB. You simply drag the content from your layout into the Articles panel. You can then drag and drop the content within the panel to reorder the reading sequence of the content. This reading order for the content in the Articles panel is independent of the actual content layout in InDesign, making it easy to customize for EPUB and HTML export.
